Payment schedule & calculation details

Starting values are a fictional example, not a provider quote. Assumes unchanged prices; include tax in your entries if applicable. Entries stay in your browser.

How to use the renewal calculator

  1. Copy the full initial hosting total. If a plan is $3 per month for 12 months paid upfront, enter $36 as the first bill. Annual billing is selected by default.
  2. Enter the next renewal total and term. A $10 monthly equivalent billed for a year means $120 and 12 months. Use your provider’s actual quote. For other term lengths, open More options and change the covered months.
  3. Add services billed separately. Open More options to enter annual domain, email, backup, and license amounts. Use zero for services already included.
  4. Choose your time horizon. Choose 1, 2, 3, 5, or 10 years. Results update as you type; expand Payment schedule to see the individual bills.

The calculator does not fetch provider prices or send your entries to a server. It uses the amounts you enter in your browser. It does not predict future price increases, exchange rates, discounts, refunds, or plan changes.

Cash paid and allocated cost answer different questions

Cash paid tells you the full payments needed to keep service active during the selected period. Allocated cost spreads each hosting term over its covered months. This helps compare different term lengths, but it does not mean the provider offers monthly payments or a prorated refund.

Fictional exampleCash paid over 36 monthsCost allocated to 36 months
$36 for 12 months, then $120 per 12-month renewal$276.00$276.00
$144 prepaid for 48 months; no extras$144.00$108.00
$0 for 12 months, then $120 per 12-month renewal$240.00$240.00

In the 48-month example, the remaining $36 pays for coverage after the chosen three-year period. It is still money you must pay upfront. For a free introductory term, a percentage increase is undefined; compare the actual renewal amount instead.

The formulas behind the results

Hosting renewal payments within the period: round up (planning months minus initial months) divided by renewal months, with a minimum of zero. A payment due exactly at the period’s end is excluded because it buys the next period’s service.

Hosting cash total: initial term total + number of renewal payments × renewal term total. Add the first annual extras payment, later annual extras payments due within the period, and one-time costs.

Allocated hosting cost: initial total × initial months used ÷ initial term months, plus renewal total × later months used ÷ renewal term months. Annual extras are allocated across 12 months; one-time costs are included in full.

Actual providers may collect an automatic renewal payment before the service expiry date. This schedule models term boundaries, not your exact bank transaction dates. Consult renewal notices for payment timing.

HoboHost Floor: a worked example

The HoboHost homepage, checked September 28, 2026, shows Floor hosting at $11 for the first year with promo code 11CPANELHOST, plus a separately listed $5.88 annual cPanel license pass-through. The renewal FAQ gives $12 per year for the hosting portion before that license charge.

Calculator fieldExample entry
First bill / covered months$11.00 / 12
Renewal bill / covered months$12.00 / 12
First-year / later annual extras$5.88 / $5.88
One-time costs / planning period$0 / 36 months

These inputs produce $16.88 due at signup, followed by two illustrative $17.88 annual payments, for $52.64 across 36 months. This assumes the hosting and license rates stay unchanged. It excludes domains, optional services, and any taxes not entered. The license is a pass-through cost and may change; this is not a guaranteed three-year offer.

Compare two hosts fairly

Run the calculator separately for each plan using the same currency and planning period. Write down the upfront payment, total cash paid, allocated monthly average, and what is included. A lower result is useful only if the plan can support your website.

  • Check storage, traffic, CPU and memory limits, backups, email, and support.
  • Do not treat a domain or email trial as free forever.
  • Include mandatory licenses once, not in both hosting and extras.
  • Use account-specific quotes for existing plans instead of assuming a new-customer offer applies.

Frequently asked questions

Does this include tax?

Only if you include applicable tax in the amounts you enter. It does not calculate tax rates. Use either tax-inclusive totals throughout or tax-exclusive totals throughout and budget tax separately.

Can I compare monthly and annual hosting?

Yes. Set the renewal term to one month for monthly hosting or 12 for annual hosting. Initial and renewal terms can differ. The extras fields use an annual schedule, so monthly extras are only approximated when converted to annual amounts.

Will the calculator predict my next invoice?

No. It is a planning tool. Provider price changes, billing dates, credits, exchange rates, and upgrades can change your actual invoice.
